What Is The Magic Ingredient For “Crushing It” In 2011?

Jason Klaskin and I were talking today about the depressing vibe within our industry that tends to wear away at the souls of even the most outgoing and motivated mortgage professionals we know.
Even if you are fortunate enough to work in a great office and with excellent agents, there are still those other people that we have to deal with.
Title, appraisers, buyers, sellers, listing agents, asset managers, attorneys….. all with a chip on their shoulder, and desperately searching for anyone who will join them in their misery.
As lenders, we’re taught to pay attention to the four C’s of underwriting.
Yet, as homeownership advocates, we really spend most of our time Counseling, Coaching and Consulting, while being as Compassionate as possible to all parties involved in a transaction.
So, with all of that emotion and attention dedicated to fulfilling the needs of others, where do we find the energy to “Crush It” in 2011?
Simple: Friends.
I've always been a big believer that “Friends Keep Friends In The Business.”
As Jason and I were discussing earlier, it was the friendships we formed through the 2010 Mortgage Revolution movement that helped us build momentum while the rest of the industry froze out of fear or frustration.
The Magic Ingredient in my success (and survival) over the past few years has been the positive friends and influences I’ve chosen to surround myself with.
Keyword = Chosen.
Although, I certainly recognize how fortunate I am to have such caring and honest friends in my life. But, I could have just as easily chosen to let the negative people I have to associate with bring me down and kill the moment.
We started MRev mainly to connect with other mortgage professionals that were driven to influence a positive change.
And something amazing happened – we realized we weren’t alone.
Hands went up and a wave of unselfish acts swept through the industry.
All of our speakers flew themselves to each show, paid for a ticket and shared their best tips with a bunch of strangers, while honoring our No Pitching from the stage policy.
Two of our first responders, Roberto Monaco and Dave Savage, even did a webinar to help our speakers prepare for the Atlanta show.
Which brings me back around to my point about meeting the right friends to help you succeed in the industry.
Our good friends, Roberto Monaco, Jeff Paro, Pablo Fernandez and Paul Johnson are lighting fires this year with the Crush It Tour, which is sponsored by First Cal.
If you’re in the neighborhood on Feb. 2 (San Diego) or Feb. 3 (Orange County), drop by and make some new friends to help you Crush It in 2011.
